I am not a superstitious person. I love Halloween as much as the next person, probably more than most, actually. But I don’t actually believe in ghosts, ghouls, goblins, or any other creepy beings whose names start with “g”.
Well, not usually. One night I woke up feeling that I wasn’t alone. Now, even though I’m not superstitious, I can be paranoid. I figured that it was possible someone was in the house with me. So I grabbed my hairbrush (it was the closest solid item) and tiptoed to my bedroom door. Then I hopped over to the hallway and slammed the light on, hoping to catch someone off guard.

So I went to my kitchen on full alert, poured myself a glass of water, and went back to bed.

The next day I was sitting in my car waiting out the cold before work. Suddenly, there was a flash in my rearview mirror. Something had moved. I looked in my back seat. I looked outside the car. I kept looking in the mirror, hoping to see the image again.

Finally, that night, I started hearing scratching noises on my walls. At first I thought it was from my neighbors, but then I realized I had left apartment life years ago. Then I was hoping it was my cat, or the wind, but both were still.

All of a sudden, there was a slap at the window, and I saw the tiniest bit of cloth tear away. I ran outside, hoping to catch the assailant, and I ran smack dab into… myself.

Well, I did not really run into her/me. I simply brushed her clothing. But it was the wedding dress I had always imagined myself in. I had slipped on some mud and tried to grab her dress, but she escaped my grasp and got away before I could get a great look. She was my height though, and had my walk, demeanor, and hair color. I am hoping it was just a friend in a wedding costume or something, but the whole set of events had me pretty shaken up.
